Cloud CPPM

In recent years, the CPPM, which is well-known for its national and international presence in numerical computing within the WLHC grid, has implemented cloud infrastructure to address current and future scientific challenges.

The CPPM cloud is federated nationally as a cloud infrastructure in France Grilles et Cloud . Our partners include the University of Aix-Marseille and the European Grid Infrastructure - EGI.

Cross-cutting activities take place between the CPPM and university researchers, leveraging shared resources to address national and international scientific challenges.

Openstack

An IAAS/PAAS/SAAS based cloud computing service based on OpenStack software and providing compute and storage resources on demand.

OpenStack allows you to create and manage private or public clouds from virtual resource pools. From a single control plane, OpenStack supports virtual machines, bare metal, GPU resources and software containers.

Cloud Simple

Cloud and distributed storage infrastructure enhances research in particle physics, astrophysics, biology and other sciences through:

  • Flexible computer power : Access to scalable resources for massive data analysis.
  • Optimized storage : Efficient management of huge volumes of data with redundancy and fast access.
  • Global collaboration : Instant sharing of data and tools (such as Jupyter and databases), allowing researchers to collaborate effectively and access the same resources.
  • Cost reduction : Reduced investment in hardware, use on demand.
  • Safety and reliability : Backups, encryption and management of protected access.
  • AI and advanced simulations : Facilitates machine learning and large simulation processing
  • Containerization of applications : Repeatable and portable software environments for HPC and cloud (Singularity, Docker).

Services

Our infrastructure offers users:

Computing servers on demand

  • A catalogue of operating systems.

  • Different sizes available

  • Contextualization to bootstrap.

Persistent storage.

  • Resizable block storage devices.

  • Distributed file systems (CEPH, NFS, CIFS, HDFS).

Resource isolation

  • Projects or Domains

  • Agregats, Availability Zones, Roles.

Scenarios

We provide our expertise to end users, particularly researchers, to integrate their software tailored to their specific research needs, and develop advanced applications: distributed systems, cloud-native applications, containers, or GPU-accelerated computing.

  1. The user accesses a hosted application without having to manage the underlying infrastructure. This model is ideal for ready-to-use solutions like JupyterLab.

  2. The user benefits from a preconfigured platform to develop, test and deploy their applications. They can use the tools provided without worrying about managing servers, storage or databases.

  3. The user has full control over computing resources, including virtual machines, storage, and networking. This model provides maximum flexibility for distributed models and system administration, while requiring more advanced management.
